What do women really what in a photograph?

What do women really what in a photograph?

…………………………

Mature women

This is a serious question to those who have learned the answer the hard way .. by experience.   I’m especially interested in answers about older clients.  Those that have lived a few years and no longer have baby smooth skin.

Topics to consider when answering:

  1. Which facial features to enhance.
  2. Which facial feature to hide.
  3. Which body parts to enhance
  4. Which body parts to hide.

Beyond the question, tips on how to deliver what a women wants is also requested.  What photographic techniques or tool you have found useful.

I really struggle with this type of portrait.  Please leave a comment (or link) with your best answer.

Opening up User Comments

December 2nd, 2011 No comments

When I last had the “user comment” feature enabled I received a lot of Spam.   So much spam that I turned the feature OFF.   I have made some changes and have instituted an black-list to help control spam.  We’ll see how it goes.

Make comment and see how well it works.

Google SEO

November 24th, 2011 No comments

While visiting a local photo shop I picked up a copy of PhotoMedia, a publication in the western Unite States.  Inside is an interesting article titled “Why Photographers Should Care about Search Engine Optimization” [here].  In case this is new to you, SEO stand for Search Engine Optimization.  This article focused on  Google but also gave hints for other search engines.  The article contained useful information that can be used on your website to make it easier for Google to index and place higher in a search rank.

Thought I would pass it along to the community.

Model Releases (and Property releases)

November 23rd, 2011 No comments

I decided to do some research on Model Releases.  While doing so I came across the following resource by Dan Heller Photography.  It also addresses property release and how it is often widely misunderstood.  Very comprehensive.

“However, property does not have any special rights like people do. That is, buildings are not protected by privacy and publicity laws. Therefore, the people who own the property have no right to stop the publication of such images on those grounds. However, they can protect their property through trademark registration.”   – Dan Heller Photography

Portable Studio

January 21st, 2009 No comments

First portrate sessionI recently bought a portable studio.   A backdrop stand, 2 back drops (10″x20″) and 2 strobes.  I’ll be experimenting with studio lighting and poses.  My first experiment was with my wife.  It helps to have a good model, such as my wife.  I am very pleased with the results and she was a good sport.

My next experiment will be this weekend when I will have a friend and his family over for an afternoon setting.  This is in preparation for a “Photo Fundraiser” at our church on February 15th.  I’ll be taking portraits of all who are interested.  The photos will uploaded to the storefront and clients will buy only the picture they like.   Should be a good chance to test my workflow.

About me

January 10th, 2009 No comments

In real life I am an engineer, but one of my hobbies is photography.  I suppose I would be considered a serious photographer.  My interest started when I was in high school; developing  black and white shots was done in my own darkroom.  Back then, of course, there was no thing as digital.  I still have my film cameras and use them periodically, but most of my work these days  is digital.

Intro

January 10th, 2009 No comments

I do photography.  My interests include all types of photography, such as wildlife, landscape and event photography.

What is event photography?  Events are the significant happenings throughout our life.  Weddings, reunions, ball games, parades, parties and graduations are occasions that beg to recorded.  Unfortunately, it’s hard to be a real part of these most important celebrations when you’re busy behind the camera. This is where an event photographer comes in: a client hires an event photographer to capture the memories.  You,  the client, are then free to enjoy those special moments.
